Edinburgh Airport
Edinburgh is a reasonable large provincial airport. It has a single terminal for passengers, which contains all the basic shops and other facilities you would expect. As with most airports, prices are a little higher than in normal shops, but they have not been raised to ridiculous degree. There is a McDonalds before check-in serving the usual menu at High Street prices. The terminal is not too cramped, and signage etc. is pretty clear.
Sleeping there
People have reported being able to sleep at Edinburgh airport, although security staff did check that they had tickets for the following day. The Wetherspoons pub at the airport is licensed to open all night.
Getting there on foot
It is possible to walk to Edinburgh Airport, although it is around 8 miles (12km), so it is only an option for people who are not in a hurry. A cycle route and pavement runs the whole distance from the city centre and is adequately signposted . The walk is entirely alongside a main road and gets quite boring quite quickly.
Getting there by public transport
Lothian Buses run an express bus (Number 100) every 10 minutes for most of the day from Waverley and Haymarket stations in the centre of Edinburgh. Off-peak the service runs every 20 minutes. For the few hours every night when this service doesn't run there is an hourly nightbus service, although this does not run past Haymarket. As at January 2006 the service costs 3 pounds one-way and 5 pounds return. For full details, see the Lothian Buses website. If you are feeling cheap the buses are only one pound from the main road, or from the Ingliston Park and Ride, which is located on the left of the exit road past the Hilton Hotel.
